The federal government has decided to buy vehicles for these past and prominent leadersin Nigeria. These nomination ranges from the former heads of state to the past vice presidents.Although the budget details did not indicate the number of vehicles that would be bought for each of them and the brands of the vehicles were also not disclosed.
Below are the 12 names of past leaders in thepolitical history of Nigeria that will get a car from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017.
1. Yakubu Gowon

General Yakubu "Jack" Dan-Yumma Gowon isthe former head of state of Nigeria from 1966to 1975. He took power after a military coup but he was overthrown in another.
During his rule, the Nigerian government successfully prevented the Biafran succession between 1967 to 1970.
2. Olusegun Obasanjo

He is a former Nigerian Army General who was President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007.
He served as a military ruler from 13 February 1976 to 1 October 1979, and as a democratically elected president from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. From July 2004 to January 2006
3. Shehu Shagari
Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari served as the second President of Nigeria’s Second Republic. He took over power from General Olusegun Obasanjo's military government and handed over to Muhammadu Buhari as military Head of state.
Shagari worked as a teacher for a brief period before building his political career in 1954.
4. Ibrahim Babangida

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is popularly known as IBB. He is a retired Nigerian Army General, who was also President of Nigeria under military rule
. Babangida ruled Nigeria after he overthrew Major General Muhammadu Buhari in a coup.He is also known to be a key player in most ofthe military coups in Nigeria and there were evidence of severe human rights abuses during his regime.
5. Ernest Shonekan

Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan is a British-trained Nigerian lawyer, an industrialist, a politician and a traditional chieftain. He was appointed as temporary president of Nigeria by General Ibrahim Babangida on 26 August 1993.
Shonekan's transitional administration only lasted for three months due to the pressure on Babangida to cede control to a democraticgovernment.
6. Abdulsalami Abubakar

Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar is a retired Nigerian Army General who was also the military President of Nigeria between 9 June 1998 to 29 May 1999. He succeeded Sani Abacha upon Abacha's death.
It was during Abubakar's regime that Nigeria adopted its new constitution which provided for multiparty elections. He later transferred power to president-elect Olusegun Obasanjo on 29 May 1999.
7. Goodluck Jonathan

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a former President of Nigeria. He has served from 2010 to 2015. He also served as Vice-President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010.
Jonathan served as the governor of Bayelsa state from 2005 to 2007.

Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme was the first elected vice president of Nigeria in officefrom 1979 to 1983.
Before Ekwueme became the Vice President,he was actively involved in the socio-economic development of his community. Hehas an active Educational Trust Fund that hasbeen responsible for sponsoring the education of several hundred youths to universities in Nigeria and abroad.
9. Ebitu Ukiwe

Okoh Ebitu Ukiwe is a retired commodore in the Nigerian Navy who served as the de factoVice President of Nigeria during the Ibrahim Babangida military government from 1985 to 1986.
Ukiwe is described by many as a man of Integrity. He was also appointed by General Olusegun Obasanjo as the military governor of Niger state in 1977.
10. Gen. Oladipo Diya

Donaldson Oladipo Diya is a retired Lt. General in the Nigerian Army. He was appointed Military Governor of Ogun state from January 1984 to August 1985.
In 1997 Diya and protester soldiers in the military allegedly planned to overthrow the regime of Sani Abacha.
11. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar is a Nigerian politician, businessman and philanthropist, who served as the second elected vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007, on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Atiku has also served in the Nigerian custom for 20 years.
12. Namadi Sambo( former vice-president)

Mohammed Namadi Sambo is a Nigerian politician who was Vice President of Nigeria from 19 May 2010 to 29 May 2015. An Architect by training, Sambo is an alumnus of the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
While still serving as Kaduna state governor, he was picked by the president of Nigeria to become his deputy.
