– Senator Jeremiah Useni expressed annoyance at the level of looting in the country

– The senator advised that those guilty of looting the country’s treasury should be given the Jerry Rawlings treatment

– He insisted looters do not deserve to be treated democratically

Senator Jeremiah Useni has sent a message to President Muhammadu Buhari to deal with looters severely the same way Jerry Rawlings did in Ghana.

Jeremiah Useni wants looters punished severely

President Buhari has vowed to wipe corruption from the country and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has investigated and arrested those who allegedly looted the country’s treasury especially during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

Daily trust reports that that Useni who is a senator from Kogi urged Buhari to purge the country of corruption the same way the former Ghana president did.

In his Independence Day address on Saturday, October 1, Useni said: “Public officers stole a lot of money. As far as I am concerned, such people need to be dealt with the very way Jerry Rawlings did in Ghana.”

“We must support what President Buhari is doing. We must recover stolen funds.”

Rawling who seized power in 1997 through a coup carried out what he termed “house-cleaning” when former government officialssuspected of corrupt practises were killed.

More than 300 Ghanaians were either killedor disappeared during his revolutionary approach which some have criticised as being too strict and undemocratic.

Contrary to Useni’s position, another senator, Dino Melaye recommended the provision of presidential pardon to militantsand looters of the country’s treasury.

He said:“Though an unrepentant advocate for integrity and forthrightness especially from public office holders, l however sincerely want to recommend that Mr. President grants Presidential Amnesty/Pardon to all those who looted our treasury provided they return all proceeds of their loot to the government within six (6) months of the declaration of the Amnesty.”
