Barcelona super star Lionel Messi to visit Egypt for special campaign against Hepatitis C

Barcelona super star forward Lionel Messi is expected to be in Egypt on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 for a health campaign against Hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C is a contagious liver disease that ranges in severity from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, lifelong illness that attacks the liver.

The deadly disease also results from infection with the Hepatitis C virus (HCV), which is spread primarily through contact with the blood of an infected person.

Messi was expected to visit Cairo last Wednesday, but a statement was issued by the sponsoring company which stated that the 29-year-old Argentine professional footballer could not leave his team after their embarrassing loss at the hands of PSG in the Champions League.

The campaign is coordinated by Egypt’s Health and Tourism ministries, and launched by the Egyptian government in order to motivate patients of Hepatitis C from all around the world to seek treatment in Egypt, as it is cheaper and more effective.

Lionel Messi was first scheduled to come to Egypt in December 2016 but had to postpone his trip after the Cairo cathedral bombing.
