- President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a letter to Anambra state Governor Willie Obiano over Ozubulu killing
- Unknown gunmen had on Sunday August 6 attacked St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu and killed some members of the church
- The president also condoled with a former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido over his daughter’s death
The Presidency on Wednesday August 9 said President Muhammadu Buhari had followed up his telephone call to the Anambra state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, with a letter of condolence and commiseration following what he described as “shocking and cowardly attack on worshippers” at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state on Sunday August 6.
The Punch reports that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.
24repoters.com gathered that Shehu said in the letter he signed and sent on Tuesday, that the President said that “to attack and kill defenseless people while worshipping is the most heinous of all crimes.
“The nation is one at deploring this monstrous crime.
“Please, convey to the families and friends of those killed, my condolences for this utterly dastardly crime.
“Please, also convey my considerations and sympathies to the people of Ekwusigo Local Government Area for this tragic attack.”
Shehu said in similar letter of condolence to a former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido that the President said he was shocked to learn about the death of his daughter, Hajiya Hadiza Sule Lamido.
He said in the letter bearing his signature, the President requested the former governor to “please convey to your family members, friends, friends and associates of the deceased my sympathies.
“May Almighty Allah forgive her and may He forgive us when our time comes.”
Meanwhile, 24repoters.com had earlier reported that the names of the victims of the gruesome attack at the St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu, Anambra state, have been released by the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi.
