– Senator Dariye cited the current crisis rocking the
PDP at the national level as his main reason for
dumping the umbrella party
Senator Joshua Chibi Dariye, the former governor of
Plateau state and senator representing Plateau Centre
at the red chamber on Thursday, September 22,
dumped his traditional political party, Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives
Congress (APC).
Dariye official defection was contained in a letter he
submitted to the Senate and was read by the Senate
President, Bukola Saraki at the close of today’s plenary

decamps from the People’s Democratic Party to the
All Progressives Congress at today’s sitting
It was gathered that Dariye at plenary session today,
crossed immediately from the wing where his former
party members sat and joined his new brothers and
sisters at the other wing.
While addressing the National Assembly Press at the
end of the plenary, Senator Dariye cited the current
crisis rocking the PDP at the national level as his main
reason for dumping the umbrella party.
With Senator Dariye’s defection, the number of PDP
Senators in the red chamber has been reduced to 42
while the APC with the majority now stands at 60.
Labour Party has only one Senator.
The spasm of re-run elections directed by the Court of
Appeal the number of serving senators from 109 to 103
as six senators were affected.
