Chelsea might struggle to retain Premier League trophy - Conte issues warning to board

- Morata likely to start against Burnley in Chelsea's Premier League opener

Chelsea boss Anthonio Conte admits his current club is not strong enough to repeat their last season feat.

The Italian fired a warning to his board as he admits his rivals have been busy in the transfer market this summer.

When asked if he believed he would struggle to repeat his success without new signings, Conte told SkySports said: “Yeah, for sure.

“At the end of the season I think it’s important that every great team try to improve.

“There are six strong teams in this country, which is not usual.

“These teams are very strong and improved a lot and this season will be very challenging for him.

“I hope to improve our squad and team. The transfer market isn’t finished, we want to be competitive and we want to fight for the title.

“The club knows what our priorities are. We have only three midfielders and we need another.”

Chelsea begins their title defence in a home against Burnley on Saturday August 12.

Record-signing Morata was benched for the Community Shield defeat against Arsenal.

However, Conte hinted he was ready to unleash the Spaniard from the start against the Clarets.
