FG needs N1 trillion for aviation sector – Minister

– The minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika expresses displeasure at the poor state of infrastructure in the aviation sector




– Sirika discloses that the ministry has inaugurated a 9-man delivery team to interface with stakeholders in the aviation sector on concession of the air port–



 The minister says the team will liaise withlabour unions to oversee the day to day running of the concession



The federal government needs the sum of N1 trillion to turn around the country’s aviation sector, the minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika has said.




Sirika made the statement on Tuesday, October, 18, at a four-day public hearing organized by the House of Representatives committee on aviation.


The hearing, according to Premium Times was focussed on“The Need to Rescue the Ailing Aviation Industry from Imminent Collapse.’’




Mr. Sirika who expressed displeasure at thepoor state of infrastructure in the aviation sector however, noted that government had no plans to&nbs
“In fact, what we intend to do is to put them into better use’’



 The minister disclosed that the ministry had inaugurated a 9-man delivery team to interface with stakeholders in the aviation sector on concession of the airports.


 Sirika said the team will liaise with labour unions to oversee the day to day running of the concession. He noted that the process will be carried out in a better,


more transparent and effective manner.“We have to improve upon what the Nigerian Ports Authority has done to ensurethere is more efficient and transparent process and ensure that government also makes more money,’’



Sirika said.Meanwhile, the Nigerian aviation sector on Wednesday, October 12, was hit with a majorshakeup as about 21 senior officialsof the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were sacked.



The officials affected include directors, general managers and deputy general managers, were reportedly handed their termination of appointment letters.



Sources at the head office of FAAN in Lagos said that no fewer than 10 general managers were reportedly demoted as theywere said to have earlier been improperly promoted.
